Hiring: Senior Data Product Engineer

Shortlist Media (Holborn, London) is a market leading independent publisher who initially made their name with ShortList and Stylist magazines. We are now entering an exciting phase of new digital only launches. This is a fantastic career opportunity to join us as at this stage, as we’ll be drawing on our newly formed inhouse creative development team to marry up industry-leading editorial, design and technology. We are firmly setting our sights on delivering truly original, creative and fun products.


  • Senior back end developer with a sprinkling of full-stack experience, to be based on-site in our London office (EC1)
  • 5+ years professional brand or agency-side experience
  • You will be integral to the upcoming products that we are kicking off in the next few months. Lots of exciting tech ahead! 🔭
  • Work on our in house data platform, extracting data from various 3rd party services and transforming it into various analytics, and reporting tools
  • Grow our fledgling pack of micro-services, work on APIs for content, mapping, AI powered content analysis and more

About you

  • You’re a passionate web developer with the majority of your experience with server-side programming skills
  • PHP: Having worked with a range of modern frameworks such as Laravel 5 (preferable), Symfony 2/3 or similar
  • WordPress makes up part of our tech stack, so experience here is ideal. 
  • Ideally have some knowledge of NodeJS and JavaScript scripting. If not, you’ve been keen to learn! As this will make up more of our products over the next few months.
  • You take web performance very seriously and know how to tune the application until its buttery-smooth while managing code complexity.
  • Experience of working on large-ish codebases, not just short-term microsite/campaigns
  • Ideally have mentored juniors and managed contractors
  • DevOps: AWS, Linux, networking knowledge is a bonus
  • You will love to collaborate and talk to through solutions
  • You will have great written and verbal communication skills.
  • A solid, confident ability to make a splendid cup of tea if it’s your round
  • You have your finger on the pulse within the tech industry, are excited about shiny new things, but are prudent to not necessarily recode all the things.
  • Lastly, we want you to be very passionate about what you do, and produce the best in class products. We’ve got some exciting products coming up that we’ll want to put our name to.
